With the inaugural exhibition of the Centro de Experiência Viva - Museum of Typhology, the Centro de Arte e Cultura da Fundação Nossa Senhora da Esperança intends to open up to us the perceptions of the senses, often little explored. We are used to going to exhibitions with excessive use of visual technology, which are taking human beings away from their own bodies. And the nature that surrounds it. The body has unlimited resources. little explored. What we propose is to make the senses more acute.
One of the oldest arts of humanity is, without a doubt, perfumery. We find images of the human relationship with the flora and its aromatic elements since the beginning of writing; there are traces of Ancient Egypt that illustrate the interest in developing fragrances for our body. Currently, the cosmetics and perfumery industry is one of the most constantly renewed; there is even a movement of companies that produce personalized and exclusive fragrances, thus showing the importance given to expanding the perception of smell.
The exhibition AROMAS QUE NOS GUIAM invites us to relive lessons learned from distant times, mainly through smell, but also through touch, taste, hearing and vision. What we propose is to connect the human being with Nature, from which we are so far away. We were “taught” about the notion of development at any cost, even at the cost of the destruction of natural elements. The scientific development of the study of genomes has proved that everyone – the Earth, the Flora that covers it, the Fauna and the human being that inhabits it – are made of the same “star dust”, we have almost all the same DNA. Therefore, returning, like our primitive ancestors, to exploring the senses of the aromas that nature offers us is to return to harmony with our being-in-the-world.
This is an open exhibition. More than just producing knowledge, AROMAS QUE US GUIDE invites you to experience a unique and memorable experience. This exhibition is, above all, educational, aiming to awaken the interest of different generations for the integration between man and nature, between science and art, towards the end of borders delimited only by consumption and by the idea, unbridled progress without limits. Directing our senses to what surrounds us and the community that surrounds us. It is with them that we share the air that is air and that is part of each one of us. And it is through the air that we can give greater fullness to the sense of smell, perceive it in its fullness of beauty. After all, it is the beautiful that gives meaning to life.
